For years, Simmy*, a Christian farmer in Pakistan, endured harassment because of his faith. Local extremists pressured him to convert to Islam, but he stood firm in his beliefs and refused to abandon his identity or convictions.

In February 2025, his resistance came at a terrible cost. While cutting wood, Simmy was attacked by three local religious fanatics armed with a gun and wooden rods. They abducted him and demanded that he renounce his faith. When he refused, they subjected him to brutal violence. To further humiliate him, they shaved half his head and eyebrows, painted his face black, and paraded him through the village on a donkey. They mocked him with abusive language while bystanders jeered.

Simmy’s family members were devastated. His mother described the ordeal:

“We do not support violence, still we are under their threats… My son has always worked hard, even caring for their cattle, yet they subjected him to such brutality”.

A week later, Simmy’s brother bravely called the police. A report was filed, with one perpetrator being arrested. Sadly, the other two attackers were not. Since then, Simmy’s family has faced ongoing threats for pursuing justice. The family’s safety is precarious, and they live in constant fear of further attacks and humiliation. Kind, hardworking and respectful citizens, unable to sleep at night due to the threat on their lives. They have been forced into hiding at a relative’s home and now plan to move to another city.

Still standing strong

Despite this horrific ordeal, Simmy’s courage shines through. His refusal to convert, even under violent coercion and public humiliation, is a testament to his strength and faith.

Today, thanks to the generosity of our donors, Simmy and his family are receiving urgent support for basic essentials as they remain in hiding. This aid has given them safety, dignity, and hope as they seek to rebuild their lives away from the threats that surround them.

Simmy’s story is, heartbreakingly, not unique. However, it serves as a powerful reminder of why our work matters. With your support, survivors like Simmy can hold on to their beliefs, protect their families, and find a second chance at life, even in the face of unimaginable adversity.
